In honor of Indigenous Peoples Day, let’s gather in person to hear Shuumi stories. Shuumi means “gift” in the Chochenyo language. It is a voluntary financial contribution that non-Indigenous people living in Lisjan Nation territory (including the East Bay) can give as a way to acknowledge Lisjan Nation sovereignty and provide material support for their rematriation work.

Shuumi is stewarded by Sogorea Te’ Land Trust, and we are deeply honored that members of Sogorea Te’ Land Trust will be joining us to talk about this powerful act of solidarity. They will be joined by a panel of speakers representing different ways of giving Shuumi. We’ll explore questions like: What moved you to give? What questions or challenges did you face? How has giving Shuumi changed you? Then we’ll consider our own Shuumi story, even if it has yet to begin. Our panelists will include:
