Have you seen the word “Shuumi” on a neighbor’s yard sign or heard it during a land acknowledgement and wondered what it means? Have you considered giving Shuumi and want to learn more? Already giving Shuumi and want to find a community of others doing the same?

Join Good Guest Kensington on Friday, 10/16, 7-8:30 pm, for Shuumi stories in honor of Indigenous People’s Day.

As East Bay residents, we live in Lisjan Nation territory. Shuumi is a financial contribution that we can make to acknowledge Lisjan Nation sovereignty and provide material support for their rematriation work. It is a powerful act of solidarity.

Shuumi is stewarded by Sogorea Te’ Land Trust, and we are deeply honored that members of Sogorea Te’ Land Trust will be joining us. A panel of speakers who each give Shuumi differently will share their stories. We’ll hear from an organization giving institutional Shuumi and two neighbors who give individually, one with money and the other through a home bequest. Join us for this evening of stories, learning and community.
